My Modern Collection of Movie Tickets

My Movie Ticket Collection

Ever since I was a kid, there has been something magical about the cinema that captivated me. It’s not just the movies themselves—it’s the entire experience of going to the theater. That unique moment when the lights dim, the screen lights up, and you’re transported to an entirely new reality. Every story is different, sometimes worlds apart from your own, and the immersive sound pulls you even further into the narrative.

How It All Began

In 2016, as a young teenager, I started collecting movie tickets, inspired by an Instagram influencer. At first, I stuck the tickets on my wardrobe—it seemed like a fun idea. But eventually, it got out of hand, and my wardrobe ended up completely covered in tickets. So, I decided to move them into a notebook, numbering each page to keep everything organized.

The Digital Shift

As time went on, I started buying tickets online. I didn’t want to lose this small tradition, so I found a way to adapt: I printed the tickets from the email receipts and added them to my collection. But as the years passed, my habits evolved. I let go of the romantic notion of a physical collection and switched to digitally logging all the movies I’ve watched in the cinema. Now, I keep track of them in the notes app on my phone.

The situation was clearly getting out of hand! You can clearly spot which tickets were printed at home and which are receipts or tickets that have yellowed over time.

The Technical Details

This modern catalog is made possible thanks to The Movie Database and its API. Every movie I’ve seen (and those I’ll watch in the future) is organized in lists by year, which are automatically updated.
